How old is tattooing? A 5,000 year old ice man, discovered high in the alps, and he had 58 distinct tattoos, made up mostly of simple lines and dots. For as long as we can imagine, everyone from royalty to commoners, tribal chieftains to sailors, criminals and members of elite secrete societies have all been getting tattooed. An art form found all over the world, tattooing remains a celebration of one of the oldest and most human forms of expression.
